MICHAEL P. TRACY, CFP®
Principal
Michael has worked within the financial services industry for 25 years, and has been a Certified Financial Planning Practitioner for 19 years, building his asset management career since 1988 from Sarasota, Florida, and then from Boulder, Colorado since 2007. Michael was a Securities Brokerage Branch manager for 15 years before transforming his business into a fee-only investment advisory in 2003. In 2008, he merged his firm with Ted’s firm, Global Capital Advisors, to form Vinoy Capital. Over the last 22 years he has developed the unique investment matrices and algorithms used in portfolios managed by Vinoy. Michael earned a Political Science-International Relations degree from the University of Florida, and is also a graduate of the College for Financial Planning's Certified Financial Planner Program.
Michael believes in providing globally diversified portfolios encompassing virtually every major asset class including equities, bonds, real estate, natural resources and various hedging strategies in order to provide portfolios which fit the psychological and financial needs of a client with the least amount of portfolio volatility. "While we always want to maximize returns, we always want our clients to be able to sleep well at night, no matter what the markets may be throwing at us".
In Boulder, Michael is deeply involved in the social enterprise and impact investing communities, which attempt to solve social and environmental challenges in the U.S. and in the developing world by creating for-profit companies which are self-sustaining, instead of the ongoing support required of the philanthropic model. To that end, Michael is an advisor and angel investor for the Unreasonable Institute in Boulder, and an Ambassador for iDE (International Development Enterprises) in Denver. Michael is a member of SVN (Social Venture Network) and is on the advisory boards and/or an investor in, several social enterprise startups throughout the U.S., including the HUB-Boulder. While in Sarasota, Michael volunteered his time on the board of Epiphany Cathedral Catholic School and on the board of the Epiphany Cathedral Parish Finance Committee.
Michael is a Black Belt in Shuri Ryu Karate, a Brown Belt in Shinto Yoshin Ryu Jui Jitsu and holds various other designations in other martial arts disciplines while training for over 27 years. Michael served for 8 years in the U. S. Naval Reserve, working in units that supported United States Naval Forces Europe in London and United States Central Command in Tampa, FL. He currently competes in 5k and 10k runs and half marathons in races in and around Boulder. Michael has 3 children, Annabelle, Spencer, and Clara Mary.
TED S. RICH
Principal
Ted has practiced in the investment industry for 19 years. He began his career as a Financial Advisor specializing in risk management and estate planning and while working with several independent and national firms, Ted served a clientele of mostly individual investors. In 1998, he joined the Orlando office of Robert W. Baird and Company and then quickly Ted was recruited to Baird’s Milwaukee headquarters to join their Corporate and Executive Services team, focusing on the unique needs of corporations, executives and high net worth investors. In 2002, he left the corporate world and founded Global Capital Advisors, an independent investment advisory firm, and then in 2008 merged that firm with Michael's firm, Sarasota Asset Management, to form Vinoy Capital. The firm continues to be based in Orlando, Florida, with a second location in Boulder, Colorado.
As an experienced financial professional, Ted believes strongly that partnerships and teamwork are keys to developing optimal investment and planning strategies. “If you assemble a team of talented professionals and resources, and then put the clients’ interests first, the inevitable outcome is that everybody wins.”
The University of Florida is where Ted earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, and where he was team captain for the Gator Baseball team, including a trip to the 1991 College World Series. After living in Florida most of his life, since 2010 he has lived in Colorado with his wife and four sons. In his non-professional time, Ted enjoys being involved in his kids’ constant schedule of team sports, both as a coach and a spectator. Personally he also enjoys a wide variety of activities including snow sports, fitness activities, traveling and reading. He has a history of volunteering his time to local organizations whenever he can, and is currently a board member of the Boulder Valley YMCA.
SALLY H. TURNER
Manager of Client Relations
Sally has been with Vinoy Capital and its predecessor firm since 2003 and is responsible for managing all client relations while also providing key administrative and operational support for the Principals of the firm.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Sally did undergraduate work at DePauw University in Indiana, then earned her B.A. at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. At Rollins she also went on to earn an M.B.A. in Finance and International Business back when it was unusual to find a woman in the business school. In addition, she is a graduate of the Florida Trust School at the University of Florida.
Sally brings to the firm over 30 years of experience - as a probate and tax paralegal at a prominent Orlando law firm, as a trust officer with a large national bank, and as a controller for a well-known custom home builder. Also having a heart for ministry, she has served as ministerial support staff at both a 5,000 member church and an international Christian financial ministry.
Sally's passion is serving Vinoy's clients well with her excellent administrative skills, extensive knowledge, professionalism and compassion. She also enjoys spending time with family, Bible study, home decor, and studying genealogy.
